A big loop through the Lviv region. About 480 km by car. It starts at Zolochiv Castle, a 17th-century palace fortress east of Lviv, goes through Peremyshliany to Lviv, then south through Stryi and Skole to the Carpathian foothills, the spa town of Truskavets and the Drohobych area, and returns to Lviv. Count a full day of driving, or two with stops.

The route. Zolochiv – Peremyshliany – Lviv – Stryi – Skole – Truskavets – Mykolaiv – Lviv.

On the way. Zolochiv Castle has two palaces and a bastion fortress. Lviv’s old town is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Stryi is a quiet town on the river Stryi at the start of the mountains. Skole is the entrance to the Skole Beskids National Nature Park, a forest of beech and fir in the Carpathians. Truskavets is a spa resort known for its mineral water Naftusya. Near Drohobych stand the wooden churches of the Carpathian region, a UNESCO World Heritage group.

Good to know. The mountain section has many curves and slow trucks. Book a hotel in Lviv in advance in summer. The music is Ukrainian.
