Kyiv: a short walk in Pechersk
In the old heart of Kyiv. A short walk of about 600 m in Pechersk, the historic neighbourhood on the hills of the right bank of the Dnipro. Pechersk is also the name of the larger administrative district (raion) of the city, and the two are often confused. It is called the very heart of Ukraine: the seat of the government and parliament is here, together with parks, embassies and some of the city’s oldest streets.
Nearby. The Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, a monastery founded in 1051 with golden domes above the river and, with the nearby Saint Sophia Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage site; the Mariinsky Palace, a baroque palace of the 18th century; and the Park of Eternal Glory above the Dnipro.
Good to know. The slopes are steep: the best views of the river and the left bank are from the hilltops. The Lavra and its caves can be visited with a ticket; dress modestly. The music is a short melody to walk to.
